Sure it’s great to see what beautiful gowns the celebs wore down the red carpet for the Academy Awards, but the Grammy’s always offer up an interesting mix of those who want to look good, and those who just want to be looked at- and last night was no exception. This year it seemed as though there was almost less concern about looking amazing, and to be honest some of the crazier outfits made for a much more interesting show.
Questionable?:
While Rihanna’s performance was pretty good, and I do love Jean Paul Gaultier, her dress which was strategically placed strips of white rouching was, to be honest kind of unflattering. She has a great body, but the completely sheer, and harsh white horizontal lines all across her body would be pretty hard for anybody to pull off- although the white dress with her now fire-red hair was great. Lately it seems as though she is a little unsure of which direction her “look” is going, and seems to have settled on overtly sexy- which has been done so many times before.
Katy Perry always has a quirky candy-land sort of appeal in the way she dresses, and while last night was not one of her best looks with a sequinned bra overlaid with a long iridescent tulip skirt, it wasn’t a miss. Her style is always a little over the top, and while this look probably isn’t going to get her on any best dressed lists, it’s just come to be expected from her- but maybe next time she should lose the Victoria’s secret angel look.
The same can be said for Nicki Minaj. I do appreciate when stars aren’t afraid to do their own thing but her head-to-toe leopard prints with her hair styled like cotton-candy was a real statement. She is really pushing the boundaries, and her music has a lot of character, it would be kind of nice to see her, just be her
On to Gaga. Well, she arrived carried in a giant egg- apparently incubating. Is there anything else to say?
Amazing:
I was actually quite surprised to see Snooki’s outfit- yes she is not a music star, but she actually had understated makeup, a flattering hairstyle, and a cute sparkling mini dress. Pretty and classy, and very un-Jersey Shore.
Jennifer Lopez has re-entered the public eye by appearing as a judge on American Idol, and she seems to be looking better and better. Last night she wore an entirely mirrored mini dress by Pucci which showed off her curves and toned legs, and wore her hair natural and flowing- really bold and she looked great.
These next two artists have both made a body transformation and they both also looked radiant. Jennifer Hudson wore a corseted black Versace gown which really accentuated her newly toned physique, and she looked so happy to show it off. Kelly Osborne has also taken to new a new diet and exercise routine and while she has said in the past she will never be a size two- it seems she is now, and she also made a great fashion choice to show it off. She looked so lady-like and pretty in a soft purple one shouldered floral dress with a ribbon at the waist. Some may say it looked a little like a prom dress, but her silver glitter shoes made it just right for the Grammys.
Finally, Lea Michele, better known as Rachel from Glee has taken some unnecessary heat for her sexy choices in magazine shoots, her dress choice last night was still sexy, but so beautiful. Her long black dress with an under the bust lace cut out by Pucci was so classic and sexy with a daring side slit to show off her legs, and a classic deep red lip she looked stunning, although maybe a little bland for the Grammys.
